The Story of Baakhai Table
A Kumaoni Dining House
In the villages of Kumaon, homes were often built together in clusters called Baakhai—stone houses sharing courtyards, stories, and meals.
A Baakhai was more than architecture. It was a way of living—rooted in warmth, community, and the joy of gathering around food.
“Baakhai Table” draws inspiration from this spirit.
Set in the hills of Chitai near Almora, our dining house celebrates the flavours of Kumaon through local grains, forest herbs, seasonal produce, and recipes passed through generations.
Here, the mountains set the rhythm of the table— meals are unhurried, stories are shared, and every guest becomes part of the Baakhai.
